Mission

The Pride Center works to provide a space for connection, growth and engagement for the LGBTQ+ student community through activities, services, support, training and social events. The work of the Pride Center fosters a stronger campus environment that is inclusive and supportive of all identities.

The Campus Pride Index is an overall indicator of institutional commitment to LGBTQ-inclusive policy, program and practice. The index is owned and operated by Campus Pride, the leading national nonprofit organization for student leaders and campus groups working to create safer, more LGBTQ-friendly learning environments at colleges and universities. The index is supported under the Campus Pride Q Research Institute for Higher Education as well as benefits from strategic partnerships with professional organizations in higher education and related LGBTQ nonprofit organizations.

First-Year Pride (FYP) is a semester-long opportunity for LGBTQ+ first-time freshmen to connect with their cohort and support system at Murray State University. FYP supports the transition from high school to campus by providing academic mentoring, monthly social opportunities, and campus connections to resources and allies from across campus.

Academic mentoring includes opportunities for FYP members to ask questions and receive assistance with study skills, time management, etc. Campus connection sessions will feature allies from across campus discussing resources and processes that are available to Murray State students including career services, name change/pronoun indicator processes, gender-affirming voice services, on-campus housing support, mental health, etc.  All academic success workshops and campus connections will occur at 3:30 pm, via Zoom, and are recorded for easy access to those who cannot make the meeting.
